Popcorn

...Using popcorn to sharpen your reflexes?

You may find this technique extremely questionable. However, I want you to give it a try at least once before you dismiss it. Pop a full pot of popcorn on your stove. After it has cooled down, remove the lid. Pick up the pot. Proceed to throw it all over your kitchen – throw it in every corner from the counter to the floor to the top of the cupboards. Throw it everywhere. Next, place an open trash can in a chosen location in your kitchen. Your job is to pick up every single kernel (one at a time) and throw them into the trash can as fast as you can, without stopping or even pausing. Not only will it require you to change positions continuously, but you will constantly be focusing in on recognizing / grabbing a small target (popcorn piece) and instantly switching to another (trashcan) while simultaneously performing an action (throwing it, which becomes a reflex after doing it enough times). Not only is it a great workout, coordination and reflexes improver, but it also prevents “eye fixation.” By selecting new targets continuously, you are training yourself to not dwell upon (stare) at an action you just executed. This is important in many sports. The longer you linger in eye fixation on something you just did / threw, the longer it will take for you to make your next move. By throwing the popcorn pieces in the trash as fast as possible and not even watching them fly into the trash, you will work to prevent eye fixation and develop your reflexes. Clearly, the bears in “Popcorn” by Frank Asch should have developed insane reflexes if they went about cleaning up the house through this method!
