If you engage in sports training, you probably realize the most important time to push yourself and train properly is when you are tired. Not only is this important in developing a strong will and perseverant spirit, but it can also be useful in developing reflexes. Training your reflexes and pushing yourself while tired is like weight lifting for your cognitive systems. The load of being tired slows the responses of your nervous system to stimuli. Therefore, if your practice your sport while tired and are able to develop fast reflexes / response speeds, you will be even better when you are well rested. So, if you show up at practice after a long day at work and are exhausted, don’t let yourself take a back seat in training. Push yourself extra hard to try to operate at your normal, well-rested levels. Then, the game will be that much easier when you are rested.
